Would you do a reading for me?
Sure. Write to me at STUBBLEJUMPERSCAFE@GMAIL.COM and put "tarot reading" in the subject line. I'll reply and we'll make an appointment. If I'm doing the reading via email, then when I've received payment, we'll set a date for the reading; you'll send the information I ask for and, in the case of the basic reading, your three questions.

Do you charge for readings?
Yes I do. Readings take time, skill, energy and effort. When I do them for nothing, you are tied to me by a little cord of "owing," whether we are aware of it or not. We don't want that. A fair exchange leaves us both free. Payment doesn't have to be cash, I'm happy to receive goods or services.
Each type of reading is priced differently.

• Nine-card reading:
Please do not ask for a nine-card reading more often than every six months. It covers a year, and if you aren't paying attention to and working with the reading you've already had, another one is not likely to do you any good.
Birthday, wedding, anniversary reading:
A birthday card speaks to what's happening in the person's life and what they need to remember throughout the coming year. A wedding or anniversary card advises a couple what they (specifically their relationship) would be wise to focus on for the good of their partnership and happiness.
Because the card and its reading can be referred back to all year and in some cases for the life of a marriage, these special-occasion tarot card readings are cards that keep on giving, as opposed to being shoved into a drawer or thrown into the recycling bin and never seen again or thought about.
• New Year's reading:
This draw looks at the year ahead, month by month, using a 13-card draw.

Do readings have to be done in person?

You don't have to be sitting in front of me to have your cards read. If you can't visit me, I tune in the same way I would if you were here, but I draw the cards for you, then type out and email your reading.

What is "non-traditional" tarot?
Traditional tarot ascribes different and frequently opposite meanings to cards when they are drawn upside-down, or "reversed." Non-traditional tarot doesn't use upside-down cards; they are all studied upright although the cards around them influence their meaning as they do in traditional tarot.

Traditional tarot tends to stick to the "book definition" of the cards, although of course the reader's intuition affects her interpretation just as it does while reading non-traditionally. But the way I was taught to read cards was to notice what my eye is first and most drawn to, and to give that a weight equal to the traditional interpretation of the particular card as a whole. Thus the same card may have a different meaning or focus each time it is read.

What is a basic reading?

The nine-card reading covers your life in general, using a layout that looks at your inner self and environment; lessons to be learned and personal challenges to meet; past, present, and future if you keep on exactly as you areYou also have the opportunity to ask the cards three questions.

Can I purchase a reading as a gift?
Yes and no.
• There's one reading that you can give to a friend, and that's the birthday, wedding, or anniversary card. Tarot card, that is. You provide your friend's name, email address and approximate location, pertinent dates, etc. I do a one-card draw and email it to your friend on their special occasion. It is confidential; you don't get a copy, but I'll let you know when it's sent. People appreciate these kinds of greeting cards because rather than ending up in a drawer or the recycling, they offer insights that are useful for a long time to come.
• I'll only do nine-card readings for people who request them personally. If you want to pay for the reading, that's between you and your friend. But gift certificates, surprises, no. You know how we can lead a horse to water, but ... ? Well, this is sort of like that. A tarot card reading is a private and intimate conversation that will give a person a lot of food for thought over the year that follows. I like to do readings for people who are really interested in having this conversation.

Tarot card readers don't know anything you don't know and they are not fortune-tellers. They have no special powers, they cannot read your mind, they don't know your secrets and are not above any of the problems of life. Tarot readers are only people who have practised translating into words what the cards show in pictures. The cards tell a story. Intuition helps relate it to you and your life.

I've read tarot cards since 1984, when I studied with Cheryl ForrestShe called her tarot workshop  "Intuitive Counselling through Non-Traditional Tarot." I'm reluctant to claim that I do any kind of counselling, unless using pictures to help understand your life is considered counselling. It's good for the spirit; this I do know.

How can tarot cards know anything about me?

I can't explain it— I mean, even if I could it would still be mysterious.
I might try, though! Watch this space.
The tarot cards have surprised me many, many times over the past 30-some years. They've surprised the people I've read for, too. They're not always 100% correct and they aren't meant to be; their messages are being translated by a person who has her own experience and perspective that they are necessarily filtered through, so if a reading is 80% correct, that is a good score.  This is why you must always take every reading with a grain of salt, think for yourself and make your own decisions, regardless of what a reading tells you.
It's important to find a reader who can get out of the way and tell you what the cards are saying to you in this moment, rather than imposing her own ideas and values. Those do influence a reading so you need a reader you trust.
If I'm doing my job right, I tell you what the card says (as opposed to what I think, which is often quite different).
